Biography

Al Kanaar is the only graduate of Bowral’s Oxley College to become a test capped Wallaby. Born in Nowra, the Sydney University lock had a brief professional career before he succumbed to injury and was forced into retirement.

In 2005, Kanaar made his Super Rugby debut for New South Wales and was a surprise inclusion in the Wallaby squad for the final international of that season’s Tri-Nations tournament. Kanaar was selected in the match day 22 and went on to make his Test debut against New Zealand in Auckland. It proved to be his only cap as he missed selection for the Spring Tour due to suspension, underwent surgery on a fractured left ankle in 2006 and then missed the entire 2007 season following a knee reconstruction on his left anterior cruciate ligament.

In early 2008, Kanaar announced his retirement due to that year-long chronic knee injury.
