Edward Bolton Morey

Morey played for Shore third XV 1946, Northern Suburbs, NSW, Powerhouse, Victoria, Australia. Morey was a big and late-blossoming second rower. After school he spent four years playing junior Rugby before joining Norths in 1951.

He made the firsts in 1951 and had a spectacular rise through representative teams in 1952-53 before being chosen behind Alan Cameron and Tony Miller in John Solomon’s team to tour South Africa in 1953. He credited his rapid development to the nurturing of Miller, his former schoolmate. Unfortunately, he suffered a badly damaged thigh on tour and never again restarted his international career, although he continued to play for Powerhouse and Victoria. 

Morey would play eight matches for Australia, but never a Test.

At the time of the tour he was 23 years of age, was 6 foot 4 inches and weighed 203 pounds. He did not get a run-on match until the fourth game, against Orange Free State (3-28), Rhodesia (18-15), Rhodesia again (31-11), Griqualand West (3-13), North-Eastern Districts (25-6), Griqualand West (11-6), Western Province Universities (5-24) and O.P. Plattelandse XV (39-17).

He played the occasional game in the front row, so he was reasonably versatile, but could not crack the Test lineup.
