Biography

Fletcher Dyson ‘only’ enjoyed one season of international rugby however it was one of the most successful in Wallaby history. Dyson was a Victorian-born tighthead prop forward who attended Brisbane’s John Paul College. He was not an Australian schoolboy but did represent his country at U19 level. Dyson moved to Sydney in 1993 and joined Randwick and later Northern Suburbs. In 1998 he made his debut for New South Wales against the ACT in Canberra but played just four matches across two seasons.

In 2000, Dyson accepted an offer from Queensland and it proved to be the turning point of his rugby career. He catapulted into Test consideration even though he was not selected in the original 41-man squad and made his Test debut against Argentina in Brisbane. He started all ten internationals of what was a highly memorable season as Australia won their maiden Tri Nations title and retained the Bledisloe Cup after John Eales’ famous after-the-siren penalty goal in Wellington.
