Guy Shepherdson is one of only two test capped Wallabies, the other being Jim Phipps, to have been born in Indonesia (his father was a stationed in Jakarta as a diplomat). Surprisingly athletic and regarded as one of the best scrum exponents of his time, Shepherdson was raised in Canberra and educated at Canberra Grammar School. While there he was inducted into the inaugural Brumbies’ Academy squad (1997). Shepherdson went on to gain national selection at both school and at aged levels.
In addition he drew valuable experience from just shy of two seasons at Bay of Plenty in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship (2002-03).
In 2004, Shepherdson made his Super Rugby debut for that season’s title-winning ACT Brumbies against Auckland in Canberra and two years later played his maiden Test, against Ireland in Perth.
In 2007 he was selected in the Wallaby squad for the Rugby World Cup where he played four of the five Tests including the quarter-final against England. That quarter-final proved to be his last international however he did go on to win a second Super Rugby championship with Queensland in 2011.
