Jakob William Schatz

An industrious, tough and versatile back-rower Jake Schatz enjoyed notable rugby success. He represented at national schoolboy level, captained his country at aged level and was a member of the victorious Queensland Reds’ 2011 Super Rugby side.

In 2013 Schatz won the Stan Pilecki Medal as Queensland's player of the year and was on track to make his Test debut before he was cruelly ruled out of the Rugby Championship match against South Africa in Brisbane. Schatz was a late withdrawal from the side after he tore the meniscus in his right knee during the captain’s run on the day prior to the match.

A year later, Schatz was rewarded for his resilience when he made his Test debut against Argentina in Mendoza. 

Highlights

2007

Selected to represent Australian Schools against England U18s, Samoan Schools and New Zealand Schools. 

2009

Selected in the Australian U20s squad for the second-annual IRB Junior World Championship tournament in Japan.

2010

Captained Australia U20s at the third-annual IRB Junior World Championships in Argentina. 

2014

Schatz won his first Test cap when he came off the bench to replace Scott Higginbotham in the 17-21 loss to Argentina at Mendoza. He won a second cap, again as a replacement, in the 23-36 loss to Ireland in Dublin.
