Biography
A prolific try scorer, John Flett was a fleet of foot winger with a tremendous right foot step who enjoyed a brief career in international rugby. As a boy Flett predominantly played soccer during his time at both Melrose High School and Phillip College in Canberra. He did not play his first serious game of rugby until his mid-20s, with the University of New South Wales, before he joined the Randwick club in 1989.
His exhilarating speed and ability to find the tryline saw him win near-immediate selection for Sydney and early the following year Flett not only made his debut for New South Wales against Canterbury in Sydney but also played his first Test against the United States in Brisbane.
He was a member of Australia’s 1991 World Cup winning team and while Flett only played in one pool match during the tournament, he returned home as a World Champion.
