Lachlan James MacKay

Lachlan MacKay was a multi-skilled and versatile fly-half / inside centre however his professional career in Australian rugby was blighted by injury.

A star schoolboy at Sydney’s SCEGGS Redlands, MacKay played alongside fellow future Wallabies Rocky Elsom, Morgan Turinui and Mark Gerrard in the Australian Schools side of 2000. He also represented Australia at aged level world championships and in 7s.

MacKay debuted for the Waratahs in 2004 and played his first Super Rugby match a year later against the Chiefs in Sydney. His good 2005 Super Rugby form saw him earn a spot in the Wallaby squad and he made his Test debut against New Zealand in Auckland. Unfortunately injuries dominated the next few years.

In his 2006 debut for the Western Force he sustained a grade three medial ligament tear and no sooner did he return than he tore a groin muscle that lingered through 2007. In 2008, MacKay joined French first-division club Brive on a two-year contract.

Selected in the Australian squad for the second-annual IRB U21 Rugby World Championships in England.

2003/04

Represented Australia in the IRB Sevens World Series.

2005

MacKay won his one and only Test cap when he came off the bench to replace Mat Rogers at fly-half in the 2nd Test, 24-34 loss to New Zealand in Auckland.
