Mark Andrew Bartholomeusz

Mark Bartholomeusz was a versatile utility back whose tenure with the Wallabies was marginalised by the national team’s success and a raft of star players during his era.

Born and raised in Brisbane, Bartholomeusz attended Brisbane State High School, played three years of 1st XV and from there won selection for Australian Schools. He went on to represent Australia for an impressive three consecutive years, 1996-98, at U21s level.

In 1998, Bartholomeusz was selected on a Brumbies development tour and clearly impressed as he was offered a senior team contract. Bartholomeusz enjoyed great success during his time with the Canberra franchise where he played in four Super Rugby finals and came off the bench in both championship winning Brumbies teams of 2001 and 2004.

In 2002 he was a late call-up to the Wallaby squad for the end-of-season Spring Tour and made his Test debut against Italy in Genova.

Mark Bartholomeusz played one Test for Australia and will forever be Wallaby #781.

Represented Australian Schools against Wales Schools. Selected in the squad to tour the U.K. and Europe and started at No.15 against Ireland Schools, Scotland Schools and England Schools.

Represented Australian U21s when they won the Southern Hemisphere tournament.

Represented Australian U21s.

2002

Selected in the Australian Men’s Sevens side for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

Bartholomeusz won his first and only Test cap off the bench when he replaced Stirling Mortlock at fullback in the 34-3 win over Italy in Padova.
