Peter Jorgensen was a highly talented winger / fullback who possessed deceiving speed and an uneven, galloping style of running. Not a big man, he used a change of pace and a swerve to flummox opponents. Jorgensen was a prolific try scorer and a sound tackler. While Jorgensen graduated from St Joseph’s College, Hunters HIll his early formative rugby years were enjoyed at Newington College. He played two years of 1st XV at St Joseph’s and won selection for Australian Schools.

In 1991 Jorgensen joined the Randwick club and the following year, just three days after his 19th birthday, made his debut for New South Wales against Wellington at Athletic Park. Two tries against the touring Scots in 1992 vaulted Jorgensen into Test calculations and he would play in both matches of the Scotland series. He was selected for end-of-year tour to the U.K. however a horror knee injury in the Shute Shield grand final ruled him out of contention. The injury required a reconstruction on both cruciate ligaments and the lateral ligament. He also fractured two bones and tore the hamstring off the bone. At the end of the 1994 season Jorgensen switched codes to play rugby league for the Eastern Suburbs club.

Represented Australian Schools against New Zealand Schools and was selected in the squad to tour the U.K. and Europe.

Jorgensen won his first Test cap off the bench when he replaced Paul Carozza on the right wing in the 27-12, 1st Test victory over Scotland in Sydney. Eight days later he picked up a second cap, also off the bench, when he replaced David Campese on the right wing in the 37-13, 2nd Test win against the Scots.
