Biography

Ryan Constable was a three-quarter of dazzling speed and exceptional balance who played a single Test match for Australia. Born in South Africa, Constable was educated on the Queensland Sunshine Coast at Coolum High School. After graduation he played his rugby for the GPS club in Brisbane and in 1992 represented the Emerging Wallabies against the touring Scotland side in Hobart.

In 1993, Constable was included in the Wallaby squad for the end-of-season tour to North America and France but while he did not make the Test squad he did play in two of the uncapped matches. Interestingly he became a Wallaby before he debuted for his state. The following year Constable was chosen in the Australian squad for the series against Ireland and made his Test debut from the bench in the 2nd Test at the SFS. Constable created Wallaby history that day as his first foray onto the field was as a temporary substitute, something that had not previously happened in Australian Test rugby.

Highlights

Represented Australia at the Sevens Rugby World Cup in Edinburgh and at the Hong Kong 7s.

1994

Constable won his first and only Test cap in the 2nd Test, 32-18 win over Ireland in Sydney. He came off the bench to substitute David Campese on the right wing and later in the match he replaced Damian Smith on the left wing.
